Support to Rolls-Royce investigation of novel sealing concept for gas turbines.

Developed and built sophisticated analytical and test methodology for simulating rub responses in complex gas turbine sealing arrangements.

Through laboratory measurements conducted on semi – representative assemblies and subsequent data analysis, validated these techniques and recommended alternative materials and architectures suitable for the application with credible justification.

Key Outcomes:

  • Developed appropriate near-engine test apparatus, as well as design and commission complex instrumentation to measure the contact in-situ.
  • Used data to drive decisions and inform project direction, using statistics to streamline testing, ensuring robust logic is followed and ensuring customer engagement.
  • Research very niche technologies, plan, define targets and problem solve to ensure project intent, deadlines and deliverables.
